Individual Development Plan of Action for 2005-2006Dawn Simmons, Chair BPW’S
Mission is to achieve equity for all
women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information. Individual Development
Program: The
Individual Development Program (ID) is BPW/USA’s seminar series for personal
and professional leadership development. The program will assist people in
meeting their personal and professional goals, as well as their goals for
community action and change. Through
the ID program, BPW/USA gives the necessary tools to offer training classes on
topics, including:
2005-2006 Goals:
a.
To make certain that all locals and
individual members understand the importance and value of the ID program.
b.
To increase the number of BPW locals
sponsoring ID Programs by working closely with local presidents/ID chairs.
c.
To increase the number of ID
competitors by having all locals sponsor a competitor.
d.
To recognize all BPW members who
complete the IDP.
e.
To recognize all local organizations
who sponsor the IDP.
f.
To make program recommendations and
guidelines developed by BPW/USA Individual Development committee to Local
Presidents/ID chairs by August 2005.
g.
To use every opportunity possible,
through the Advocate, state meetings, e-mails, letters, and phone calls to
garner enthusiasm and excitement about the ID program. Action:
1.
Work directly with BPW locals to
encourage organizations to sponsor IDP programs.
2.
Encourage each LO organization to offer
at least two modules of the ID course as programs.
3.
Offer assistance to any local
interested in sponsoring an IDP.
4.
Facilitate Individual Development
Competition at spring conference and aid the state representative in preparing
for the national competition.
5.
Present Certificates of Recognition to all IDP participants at the
annual state convention. Individual Development

to develop and present a 5-minute prepared speech · Willingness
to present a 2-minute impromptu speech · Completion
of Individual Development biographical sketch to be returned to state ID Chair
no later than · Competition
at spring conference includes five-minute prepared and two-minute impromptu
speeches · Membership
in BPW to compete at spring conference · As
required by BPW/USA, to sign agreement not to speak against the BPW/USA
legislative platform if selected as the ID representative
Timelines:

Rules:
Five-minute
prepared speech. Speech must address the assigned topic, to be
announced. A timing alert will be given after four (4) minutes (a one
minute card will be held up), another timing alert with thirty (30) seconds
remaining, and the final card will show “TIME.” Two-minute
impromptu speech. The participant will draw a title, which may be
kept or returned for another topic, which must be accepted. The
participants will be given thirty-seconds (30) to compose his/her thoughts and
two minutes to deliver the impromptu speech. Time cards will be shown at
one minute, thirty seconds and at “TIME.” Timing
will begin when the participant begins speaking. The
following areas will be considered in the judging of the 5-minute prepared and
2-minute impromptu speeches: >

Expression/Gestures >
Posture and eye contact >
Audience interest >
Topic selection >
Timing
(+/- 10 seconds = 0 points deducted, +/- 11 seconds or more
= -10 points) Judging:
State
competition will be for the purpose of selecting a representative to the
national convention. Judging criteria will be announced after the BPW/USA
national conference in July. In
the event of a tie at the State competition, the winner will be chosen based
upon the answers given to a final question reserved for this purpose.
Supplies: The Individual Development program is provided on a CD which includes the Facilitator’s Guide, Participant’s Guide and Power Point presentations for each module and the Leadership Program Guide. The CD is $14.95 for BPW members. Each local president should have in their possession, the copy of the CD that was supplied by BPW/Kansas in 2005. Budget:
Organizations sponsoring a local participant should consider budgeting funds to
help with expenses for State and possibly National Convention.
The LO is responsible for registration and meals for their competitor at
spring conference. At state
